For
centuries tassels have been used to indicate status and wealth in the
furnishings or great houses and castles. Today ornate tassels are extremely
expensive and often available "to the trade" only. Even simple country
tassels are expensive. Now with Tassel Magic™ you can create these
elaborate and expensive tassel at home, easily and economically!
A tassel consists of three main parts - the cord, the top and the skirt. The cord is used to suspend the tassel. It is pulled up through the center of the skirt and top and hold the tassel together. The top is usually a wooden shape, often called a finial, with a hole in the center. It is covered with yarn, painted, faux finished or decoupaged. It slides down over the top of the skirt. The skirt is the fringe that hangs down from the top. There are two basic types of skirt. A bullion skirt, which is made of yarn that twists back on itself to make a folded loop at the skirt bottom. A cut skirt is made of bundles of yarn that are sewn together at the top and trimmed at the bottom. |
