Materials Needed:

Tassel Magic Kit
Small Tulip Lampshade Frame #1002K
Beacon Fabri-Tac permanent adhesive
1/3 yd fabric for shade cover. A tightly woven, non fraying fabric works best
1 ½ yd cording, with bias tape attached, that matches the shade fabric
1 ½ yd narrow braid to co-ordinate with the shade fabric
5 yards bias tape, unfolded and pressed open, in a color to match shade fabric.
Glue stick
6X12" piece of light weight non-stretch scrap fabric, to make the pattern with.
222 pearl tear drop beads, with metal loop at the top.
2-100yd spools of rayon chainette or comparable yarn such as DMC Coton Perle no. 5
Straight pins

The Beaded Fringe:

1. Please read your Tassel Magic Instruction Book, page 2 and decide how many strands of yarn you want to use. With Chainette or DMC, use 2 strands.
2. Prepare six balls of yarn, 10 ½ yards long with 37 beads added to each ball.
3. Set the combs in the first and fourth grooves of the Tassel Magic Base.
4. Make six sections of bullion fringe, 37 beads wide. See page 12 of your instructions.
5. Machine stitch through the tape of each section, steam bullion fringe, see page 8, and set aside to dry.

NOTE: This fringe can be used on a lampshade you already have or you can make your own lampshade by following the instructions below.

Making The Lampshade Pattern:

1. Pick of one of the six wire panels of the lampshade frame as your starting point and rub the glue stick over the outside of the wire.
2. Place the scrap fabric over the outside of the glued wire panel and smooth into the shape of the frame.
3. On the inside of the frame, trace the inside edge of the panel with a pen, remove the fabric and cut it out with an 1/8" seam allowance on the verticals and a ¼" allowance on the top and bottom. Check to make sure that the pattern fits each panel separately.
4. Cut six panels from the lampshade fabric you have chosen with the seam allowances. Cut on the straight of the fabric grain.

Preparing The Lampshade Frame:

1. The frame must be completely wrapped with the pressed bias tape.
2. Cut 7 -14" strips for the sides and top of the frame, and 1-5' length for the bottom.
3. Begin by wrapping on the diagonal of each vertical panel. Secure the start and finish with a drop of glue. Straight pins come in very handy to hold the bias tape in place until the glue dries.
4. Wrap the top and bottom in the same fashion.

Covering The Lampshade Frame:

1. First Panel: Position one piece of the cover fabric centering it over the first frame panel. Pin to the frame at center top and center bottom.
2. Starting at the widest part of the vertical wires, apply a thin line of Fabri-Tac about 1½" long on both sides. Gently stretch fabric over the glue and hold in position for a few seconds, until glue adheres.
3. Continue up each side and then glue and wrap the top and bottom.
4. Second and Remaining Panels: Pin the top, bottom and vertical edges opposite the completed panel. Glue the new panel over the vertical edge of the completed panel. Then glue the opposite vertical, top and bottom, stretching and smoothing as you work. Complete all six panels, pinning as needed.
5. Glue the narrow braid over each of the vertical seams.
6. Glue the bias flange of the cording around the inside top and bottom of the frame.
7. Glue each section of beaded fringe to the inside bottom of the frame, centering the fringe on each panel.
